Djuma soundsystem
Get Physical
Berlin

April 17, 2007

1. You have turned shaken the dancefloors with your

release "Les Djiins" which became one of the biggest tracks for

2006, played & charted from lots of artists around the world. What

is the story behind this track ?

It is actually an old track made four years ago. We

had this idea to make an ethnical sounding track, but

for a club, not for a cheesy chill compilation.

We made it, named it Les Djinns" and it seemed to work

really well on most dancefloors, so it was picked up

by EMI, -and we asked our friends to do a few remixes.

Trentemøller is one of our good friends, so he also

made one. This was before he was known in any way.

EMI got great DJ feedback on our track, but had a huge

financial cutback, and our head was one of the first

to get chopped. We bought it back, and almost forgot

about it, until we met Phillip from M.A.N.D.Y , he is

the A&R of Get Physicall, He loved the track and

really wanted to release it, - Get Physical is one of

our favorite labels, with some of our favorite

artists, so we had to pinch ourselves to believe they

wanted to sign us. And a year later we have the best

selling track on beatport ever!!

Music is a strange and unpredictable business!

> 2.  So what is Djuma soundsystem standing out for?

Djuma means friday in arabic, we wanted a name that

said weekend, -and music. Friday soundsystem was the

perfect name.

> 3. How does it feel like being on the get physical

family?

It feels GREAT! It´s still one of our favourite labels,

and we´re such big fans of the artists there,

especially Booka Shade. The great thing about them, is

that they´re still in progress! We have nothing but

love and respect for everybody working and releasing

on that label. And they have turned out to be such

lovely persons as well! It actually feels like being

part of a family.

> 4. So numerous sales, performances all around the

world...What else is out there to explore music wise?

Lots and lots of things! Music is always

interesting, and there will always be new areas to

explore, right now we are working on tracks for a

Djuma Soundsystem album lets see where that takes us.

We have some strong disco influences, but also very

strong electronic ones. We just make the music first,

and see where it fits afterwards.

> 5. On the 5th of may wou will perform for the first

time on the Pre-reworks event which is going to take place on

Thessaloniki. Any expectations?

We have been looking forward to this gig for a long

time. We have been talking to lots of greek people on

the myspace, and everybody seems nice and eager to see

us.

And besides that, Greece is beautiful, and people

seems to like our sounds. Hope it´s warm in early may!

 ;)

> 6. Your favourite thing about Greece?

The Norwegian half of us, Mikkas, used to spend quite

a few summers in Greece, when he was a kid. Having a

mother being totally hung up on Greece, and she had

a Greek boyfriend for 7-8 years. Mikkas´ best

childhood memories are from a small island in the

Kyklades, called Astepalea. He wants to get married

there one day!
